A Little Organization, Please

Aug27

I was true to my word and took yesterday off to recuperate from the back-to-school frenzy.  It was nice, I must say.  I played with the baby, took a nap, and did some reading.  But it's back-to-work for me today!  It's also What If. . .Wednesday, the day I contemplate doing something different, out of the ordinary, to move me along my path to productivity and fulfillment.  After a bit of thought, I realized what I must do - I have to clean up some of this mess in my workspace!

I'm not an organized person, by nature.  Remember the whole attention deficit disorder thing I told you about?  One of the tell-tale signs for women with ADD are piles everywhere.  I've learned to live with my piles of crap, but I know I can be more productive if I at least try to organize the area where I will be working and spending the majority of my day.  Take a look.  My "office", which is along one wall of our bedroom, could definitely use some organization!

Pretty messy, huh?  It's my style.  But I vow to spend little time this weekend tidying and organizing while the kids are at their dad's.  Any tips on ways to corral and file papers would be much appreciated!

Whew. You are very brave. I have a mud room that looks worse then that, but I don't think I am going to pull out the camera for that one! haha. Really, it is not that bad. If you can just get started I bet it won't take long to tackle. It is the getting started that is always hard for me.

Organization is the thorn in my side. I start off with good intentions, then never put things back in the place I set up for them. So I end up cleaning up and stuffing things in drawers and boxes instead of sorting through them and organizing them like I should. I'm one of those people who needs to have a labeled bin for everything. That's the only way I'll keep it all straight.

Well, my hubby would tell you to toss everything out and start over! hee hee
I definately have no good advice because my office looks ten times worse. I will be reading your comments for tips though. GOOD LUCK!

You can always file the way I do, the trash can! Only half joking here! I am not an organized person by nature, but every once in awhile I get a bug in me and attempt to be. Share pictures of how it looks when you are all done.

That is nothing compared to my organized mess. Do you mind if I join in your vow. I vow to tidy up my disorganized workspace this weekend too!

Start by clearing your desk. Throw away stuff that you don't need or use. Utilize your tray for keeping "extremely" important papers and documents, those that need immediate attention. Get good folders, sort out your documents, and label the folders accordingly. And finally, keep a planner or calendar at your desk, where you write brief notes (you wont need to use extra paper and then waste time searching for it when it's lost). You may also want to use sticky notes to jot down tasks and deadlines.

And yes, after your clear up and organize your office, do post a picture here Smiling

Um. I totally don't think its that bad! Am I a freak? When I do get sick of my piles, I grab a trash bag, the shredder, and a box for salvation army. Everything I don't REALLY want needs to go in one of three. Now how often do I do that? Snort... um... lemme think... awhile. But I pick my battles. Kids are clean, the dishes are clean, I'm clean. We're good, right? Smiling

I was cleaning off my desk yesterday. Mostly because I needed some papers for school. I knew they were there somewhere.

Good luck with your project! I could use some motivation to get organized. Everywhere I look in my house is nothing but clutter (well, that and kids toys everywhere). Oh well, at least I managed to mop the floor last night...I should be happy with that!

I heart organization. Mostly because I'm too lazy to look for things. Your office looks like mine. I just bought "Organization Magic." It's a great book with simple tips that you can implement on an everyday basis so that organizing doesn't become too overwhelming. I'm also a big fan of the "set the time for 60 minutes and stop when it dings" method of organizing. I need focus when I do it otherwise I start five or six projects and then nothing gets fully completed!

I'm a messy girl at heart. You should have seen my first apartment...well, nevermind...maybe it's OK to keep that to myself. Eye-wink
The hubster has been desperately trying to break me of this since we now have our son.
For the most part, I'm not SO messy anymore. If you ask me, though, organization is overrated. Smiling

I hate clutter and tend to purge everything. Sorry, I am not much help with organizing because I have a tendency to pitch it. I will say, our office is just as bad, but it is my husbands mess. I let it go for a while and the it drives me crazy enough that I clear it out and he has a fit because his stuff is gone. I tell him to clean it but that doesn't happen so I do it my way. Two trash bags later I am a very happy person.
