What If. . . Wednesday: A Query a Day

Jul16

It's Wednesday - the day we challenge ourselves to step out of our box, try something new, leave our comfort zone.  I have a blogger friend who has motivated me to do that.  She's an aspiring writer (she's written a novel!), and the steps she's taken to pursue her writing career have helped to inspire me to jump in and begin my own writing pursuits.

But now she's gone too far.  She went and took an actual jump - out of an airplane!  Sorry, Susan, you're on your own for this one!  I'm just not that crazy adventurous.  You can read about her adventure and even watch a video of her insanity here.

Since I refuse to take such an insane big leap, I've decided to go for a more reasonable goal.  If I really want to become a paid writer, I have to send out queries or pitches to paying publications.  So I've decided to really go for it by trying to send out one query or manuscript each day.  "A query a day helps get Mary some pay!"  What do you think?  Wish me luck!

Mary, sending a query letter every day is awesome -- I can't say I've done that, but that shows tremendous discipline and chutzpah on your part. Good for you! I'll also forgive the insane/crazy comments about the skydiving because, well, it was a little nuts. I've watched the video several times and each time when I see myself go out of that plane I think, "Holy hell, what was I thinking?!" Smiling

First of all, I said I will TRY to send one out each day. I really will try. Second, I believe crazy was your word! Smiling

Wow, a query a day! You sure have a lot of stuff written and stored up to be able to do that!

Hello, Damyanti! So nice to meet you! Actually, I have a lot of ideas stored up. And I plan to start out small, not features or anything, probably tips and fillers, stuff for web sites and small publications. Remember, I did say try to - I'm not totally nuts. This just gives me something to strive for and work towards.

That's a really nice start, Mary. Good luck!

I'm going to watch Susan's video now Smiling I had always wanted to jump off an airplane myself, hehe.

Hope you get inspired by her video. Doesn't make me wanna do it, though! Wish I had your guts.

I am definitely inspired! She's just so cool. But my husband shares your views. He thinks there are other 'normal' stuff that I could enjoy.

But really, Susan is just amazing Smiling

Nadia and Mary, I just happened to check back here, and, well, aw shucks Smiling

Mary, way to go on your writing goals. Seriously, I think that is half the battle and I can't wait to hear about how it's going and your successes.

Hey, Susan! I'm actually dealing with a combination of writer's block and lack of time to write, so my endeavors aren't going as well as I had hoped. But I am working on a project right now and will be interviewing a source tomorrow. I'll tell you all about it - when do you want to have coffee?
